Questions remain in missing girl case
One day after a missing 17-year-old girl was found in a Hialeah motel, questions remain over whether the girl was abducted or if she went willingly.
Delray Beach detectives have interviewed Jade Beneby, 17, about the events that unfolded Tuesday, but they have not released any details about what she said.
Beneby left home at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday to go to her bus stop at Southwest Eighth Avenue and Southwest First Street. About a half-hour later, her mother received a text message from Beneby, saying she needed help. A minute later, Beneby sent another text message saying that she was in the trunk of a car.
Police began searching for the teenager, and at about 2:30 p.m., the Florida Department of Law Enforcement tracked her down at the El Paraiso motel at 1615 Okeechobee Road in Hialeah.
Investigators appeared to focus on one room inside the hotel. A tow truck hauled away a silver Mercedes from the room's private garage, but it is unclear how the car could be connected to the case.
It remains unclear how the teen ended up at the motel. The FDLE has not commented and referred all questions to Delray Beach police, who said Wednesday they had nothing new to report.
