One day after a missing 17-year-old girl was found in a Hialeah motel, Delray Beach police say they are still investigating the case as a possible abduction.

Delray Beach detectives have interviewed Jade Beneby, 17, about her disappearance from Delray Beach and subsequent discovery in Hialeah on Tuesday.

Beneby left home at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday to go to her bus stop at Southwest Eighth Avenue and Southwest First Street. About a half-hour later, her mother received a text message from Beneby, saying she needed help. A minute later, Beneby sent another text message saying that she was in the trunk of a car.

Police began searching for the teenager, and at about 2:30 p.m., the Florida Department of Law Enforcement tracked her down at the El Paraiso motel at 1615 Okeechobee Road in Hialeah.

Investigators appeared to focus on one room inside the hotel. A tow truck hauled away a silver Mercedes from the room's private garage, but it is unclear how the car could be connected to the case.

It remains unclear how the teen ended up at the motel. The FDLE has not commented and referred all questions to Delray Beach police.

Delray Beach police said they are still investigating it as a possible abduction, but they said that Beneby and the suspect in the case know each other, and it was not a random incident.

Investigators said the other person believed to be involved has been questioned but not detained. No arrests have been made.
